Firing inside Guru Gobind Singh Medical College emergency ward leaves one dead

One person was killed and ten others sustained injuries after a violent clash,between two groups of SAD supporters,that began at the Ram Leela ground in Jaiton ended with gunshots being fired at the emergency ward of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot on Tuesday.

Police said that the injured had been shifted to the Faridkot hospital when one Chamkaur Singh allegedly entered the emergency ward and opened fire on the already-hurt Ranjit Singh and Gurbaksh Singh. While Ranjit Singh was declared dead,Gurbaksh is stated to be critical.

Of the other nine injured,who have all been admitted to the hospital with bullet injuries,four are in a critical condition. Chamkaur Singh,meanwhile,is absconding.

Police said that the two groups initially fired on each other at the Ram Leela ground and then at the hospital,where police had been present. Sources revealed that Ranjit Singh was a close supporter of Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mantar Singh Brar while the other group comprised of supporters owing allegiance to a former SAD minister.

SSP Faridkot Gurpreet Singh Toor,however,said that the clashes were due to old enemity and had no political connection. He added that a few people have been nabbed for questioning while the medical college has been sealed for security reasons.
