The Batala police is currently conducting raids to catch a suspect for the murder of a six-year-old dog,a German Shepherd. Bablu Julka,nephew of a local Congress leader,was on Tuesday booked for the murder following a complaint lodged by the owner of the dog,Gurmeet Kaur.
Julka,who owns an iron store,has been booked for the murder of the dog and under Arms act. Kaur,in her complaint,had alleged that Julka shot at her dog while she and the dog were returning from the market. Julka was waiting in his shop,which is near her house,she added.
The accused allegedly shot the dog with his licensed .32 bore pistol to show his friend how accurate his aim was.
As soon as we came to know that there has been a firing,a police party was sent. We found that the accused has shot at a dog. The dog was taken to the veterinary hospital,where he died, said a police officer. The postmortem examination of the dog was conducted on Wednesday and three bullets found in his abdomen,he added.
Batala SSP Rajpal Singh Sandhu said: A case has been registered and soon,the accused will be caught.
The incident comes a few days after ADGP (Law and Order) S K Sharma had directed all police commissioners and SSPs to take action against people who indulge in cruelty towards animals.
