Won’t raze illegal structures that came up before March 31,says Pardeshi
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided not to demolish unauthorised constructions that have come up before March 31,2012.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided not to demolish unauthorised constructions that have come up before March 31,2012. However, the civic administration said it would not spare illegal constructions that have come up since April 1.
The announcement was made by municipal commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi in Monday’s civic general body meeting. According to PCMC officials, there are over a lakh illegal structures in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
In Monday’s meeting,Shiv Sena leader Shrirang Barne sought clarification from the administration regarding constructions on Pavana river bed from Ravet to Sangvi. Other corporators, too, sought to know from the administration about likely action against illegal constructions.
Pardeshi said the Bombay High Court had on March 18,2011,directed that illegal constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad be demolished, following a writ petition filed by Maruti Vanjari,a reisdent. The PCMC sought six months’ time from the court for organisation manpower and equipment,he said. The resolution was sent to the state government. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar held a meeting with Cooperatives Minister Harshavardhan Patil,MLAs Laxman Jagtap,Vilas Lande and Anna Bansode, the then municipal commissioner Asheesh Sharma and mayor Mohini Lande.
In the meeting,Pardeshi said,it was decided that illegal constructions should be regularised as was done in Ulhasnagar. It was also decided that penalty would be imposed persons who have built illegal structures before regularising them and provide 2.5 FSI. It was decided that no illegal construction would be allowed to come up in future, the civic chief said.
Pardeshi said he has directed the administration to demolish illegal structures that came up after March 31. He said he has appointed division-wise officials who will ensure that no illegal structures come up in their jurisdition. “If the officials fail to do so,they will be held responsible and face action,” he said. To this,Sena corporator Seema Savle asked why the civic administration was not demolishing four illegal buildings in Pimpri that were still under-construction.
Barne said illegal structures are mushrooming on the Pavana river bed but the civic administration has been turning a blind eye towards them. “Civic officials should ensure that illegal structures don’t crop up on the river bed. Yet they remain apathetic. The civic chief should first act against these officials,” he said, adding debris has been dumped along half of the 24.2-km stretch of the Pavana river in PCMC limits.
Several corporators participated in the discussion. They include Seema Savle,Sulbha Ubale,Yogesh Behl,Shamim Pathan,Rajendra Jagtap,Dhananjay Alhat,Vilas Nandgude,Baba Dhumal,Kailas Kadam,Prashant Shitole,R S Kumar and Ajit Gavahane.
OVER 600 PCMC STRUCTURES ILLEGAL
Shiv Sena leader Shrirang Barne caused a stir in the civic general body meeting when he said that of the 650 PCMC structures, only four are legal. “Only three auditoriums and the PCMC building have been constructed as per the norms,” said Barne.
