Woman held for assaulting husband
More than a fortnight after she allegedly assaulted her busband with a knife during a heated arguement,the Mundhwa police arrested the 32-year-old call centre employee on Sunday.
More than a fortnight after she allegedly assaulted her busband with a knife during a heated arguement,the Mundhwa police arrested the 32-year-old call centre employee on Sunday. Her husband,an HR manager with a construction company,had filed a complaint with the police after getting discharged from a hospital here on Saturday. The relatives of the woman have,however,denied the charges saying her husband had got hurt himself and was lying.
The police said the woman,identified as Dorothy Powel,assaulted Uday Powel (34) on March 13 during an argument over payment of the house rent. “The complaint registered by the victim says that his wife took a knife and injured him on the stomach,” said Police Sub Inspector D S Sable of the Mundhwa station.
Police said Uday then went to a nearby hospital and got discharged on Saturday. “Uday works with the HR department of a construction company and hails from Andhra Pradesh while Dorothy is working with a call centre in Pune. They were staying in their rented apartment on B T Kawade Road in Ghorpadi. She went to her parents’ place after the incident. We arrested her on Sunday morning,” said Javed Bagshiraj,a constable with the Mundhwa police station. “The wound was deep but not very serious.”
Police said Uday has worked abroad for a few years. He,they said,returned to India two year ago and married Dorothy. The duo has a one-and-half-year-old son. Dorothy was arrested under section 324 of the Indian penal code (IPC) for voluntarily hurting her husband. She was produced in the court on Sunday and was granted bail.
Dorothy’s uncle Ruben Jadhav told reporters,”My niece has told me that she has not assaulted Uday. The argument started when Uday refused to give the money for rent which was due since last three months. He wanted to buy a bike. Half an hour after their argument over the issue,he went to the bathroom and got injured him. We have paid for his medical expenses.”
