With coffee shops,multiplex & amphitheatre coming to city,residents couldn’t ask for more

Whether it was opening of new coffee shops, amphitheatres or multiplexes,the city witnessed a revolution of sorts on the entertainment front in 2013.

Whether it was opening of new coffee shops, amphitheatres or multiplexes,the city witnessed a revolution of sorts on the entertainment front in 2013.

Coffee lovers had a new favourite hangout,after Starbucks opened its first store in the city at Koregaon Park,right opposite German Bakery,which too had been reopened earlier this year.

Even before the store opened its gates to the public on September 7,brand enthusiasts collected in large numbers to make a beeline for their cup of coffee with their name scribbled on the cups with a marker pen. Social media websites like Facebook,Twitter and Instagram were saturated with pictures of Starbucks cups with customers’ names on them. In a span of three months,the brand has expanded to establish two more stores in the city — at Amanora mall and at Pheonix Marketcity.

“Each new store offers an opportunity to reach out to more customers and deliver high-quality Arabica coffee,handcrafted beverages made by our passionate baristas,extensive food offerings and legendary service. A delightful surprise for Puneites was the addition of the “Puranpoli” Danish and a “Kothambir chi wadi” sandwich on their menu.

The much-awaited Blue Frog amphitheatre also entered Pune with a bang. With EDM collective Above and Beyond’s Pune edition of their Group Therapy Tour on November 21,the amphitheatre attracted the attention of music lovers across the city. Located in Ishaniya Mall,the amphitheatre can accommodate up to 2,000 people and is fully equipped with a stage,lights and a sound system.

Partners Ishan Bhale and Govind Thakker,who head DICE Hospitality,have been instrumental in bringing the brand to Pune. “We are very excited to be partnering with BlueFROG,knowing that they have successfully revolutionised the way music is consumed by audiences and knowing the variety they have been able to provide and a venue that they have provided to help artistes perform. We believe that Pune as a city has always been rich in its music and art culture. The audiences in Pune have always been very open to various genres of music. From the days of the Peshwas,music has been an integral part of “Puneri” culture with many regional and local bands performing on a regular basis. The plan for bringing Cinepolis to the city was floated in 2008 but materialised on November 13

this year.

“The rapid development at Magarpatta and Hadapasar area gave us confidence that it was the right time to launch into the city,” says Devang Sampat,Head – Operations and Strategic Initiatives,Cinépolis India. The 15-screen-megaplex located at Seasons Mall,Hadapsar,brings together digital

technology,RealD,international quality 3D technology,Hollywood standard 4k

digital screens and 7.1 Dolby digital audio. The venue includes three VIP screens which offer an ultimate luxury experience.

Sampat adds that the megaplex aims at introducing new trends by screening live sports events such as cricket and football matches as well as encouraging regional cinema in 2014.
