An assessment of the functioning of streetlights was recently conducted by the electrical department of PMC. It was found that 2,959 remained off. This is out of 1.28 lakh streetlamps that dots the city roads,Deputy Commissioner (Technical Projects) Vijay Dahibhate told Newsline.
Complaints of street lamps being shut during monsoon are immediately taken note of and there have so far been no incidences of people vandalising any of the streetlights. There are fewer cases of thefts as well,Dahibhate said.
Information was collected from all the 15 ward officers before preparing the report,Dahibhate said. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) authorities pointed out that streetlights were maintained by each civic body in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal area.
