Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday assured legislators that funds would be made available for upkeep and upgradation of Sassoon General Hospital and BJ Medical College.
Sources in the medical education department said that the upgradation plan for Sassoon was being prepared for revamping and expanding the hospital to introduce super-specialty facilities and a plan was being drafted to remove the space crunch at the hospital.
Replying to a calling attention motion in the legislative council,Pawar said the medical education department should submit a proposal for Sassoon and the required funds would be allocated by his department.
He said that a meeting will be held in Pune after the budget session of the legislature to decide steps to be taken to upgrade the hospital. As finance minister and guardian minister of Pune,I will ensure that required funds are allocated for Sassoon hospital as it caters to a large number of people. The Medical Education department should submit a plan within a month, he said.
Legislators from Pune, including Mohan Joshi,Deepti Chaudhari and Ulhas Pawar, had raised the issue of incomplete work on the 11-storey building coming up in Sasson. The state government had in 2010 granted Rs 45 crore for the building.
Pawar said only six floors had been constructed whereas the entire work should have been completed last November.
