Senior NCP leader and former tribal development minister Babanrao Pachpute, who has been participating in the annual pilgrimage of “wari” for the last 11 years says this “wari”, he will make efforts to connect more with people.
He said it was in line with the advice of party supremo Sharad Pawar to party leaders to connect with people. “Pawar saheb has asked us to go back to people, and I am doing the same this wari,” Pachpute said.
Speaking about the Lok Sabha election in which the party fared poorly, Pachpute said by the time the party realised the strength of the propaganda unleashed by BJP, it was too late.
With legislative assembly elections in a few months, Pachpute said it was initially uncertain whether he was going to participate in the present wari.
“The work of finalising the campaign and everything had just started. With me being absent for the next 18-20 days, all preparations would have been surely hit. However, my supporters asked me to go ahead with the Palkhi, and they promised to look after all preparations,” he said.
He said there are around 55 Dindis from Shrigonda and he hopes to meet more than 20,000 people from his area. “This would be a good opportunity to mix with them, talk to them and understand the popular mood,” he said.
Pachpute appeared confident that he would be victorious in the assembly elections. “During the Lok Sabha elections, we were not prepared to meet the hype and propaganda built by Modi and the BJP. However, the Assembly elections would be different and we are sure to win,” he said.
