A crowd gathered at Shankarshet Road,near Swargate,at 4.30 pm,to welcome the statue of Virgin Mary ,Our Lady of Fatima,as she entered the diocese of Poona on October 9.
It is a blessed day for us as Our Lady of Fatima come to us with her message of peace. She last appeared in Fatima,Portugal,in 1917. The statue will be visiting various convents and churches in this district for 22 days, said Rev Fr Malcom Sequeira,Rector,St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
A procession led by members of the various catholic churches of Pune brought the statue out on a motor float to perform an aarti and sing some hymns. The procession and a congregation of sisters from various convents proceeded to St. Patricks Cathedral for a prayer service Our lady brings to us a message of peace and equality. It doubles our joy as we celebrate our golden jubilee year with this occasion, said Bishop Thomas Dabre.
