The State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday sought an explanation from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a case of alleged violation of the election code of conduct.
The NCP leader laid the foundation stone for a bridge in Pune a few hours after the election commission on January 4 announced election schedule for 10 municipal corporations and 27 zilla parishads in the state. The commissions press conference took place at 3.30 pm,after which the code of conduct came into force. The foundation stone laying function was held in the evening.
Apart from Pawar,notices seeking explanation were also sent to the Pune municipal commissioner,Mayor and the officer concerned,SEC sources said. They have been asked to send their replies at the earliest,they added.
Rs 5 lakh reward for info on suspects in murder case
Pune: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI had announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for anybody giving credible information regarding the accused involved in the murder of RTI activist Satish Shetty. A resident of Kala Niwas,Panchvati Colony,Talegaon Dabhade,Shetty was murdered on January 13,2010. CBI has assured that the identity of the informant will be kept confidential. Anuj Bidves last rites today
Pune: The body of Anuj Bidve will be brought back to India on Saturday. The Bidves are expected to arrive in Pune with the body around 6 pm. His last rites will be conducted the same day,said Anujs brother-in-law Rakesh Sonawane. Bidve (23) had been shot dead in Salford in the UK on December 26. His parents and Sonawane had flown to the UK to bring back his body. Kiaran Stapleton (20) has been charged with Anujs murder.
PIL against Hazare trust dismissed
Pune: The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking investigations into social activist Anna Hazares Hind Swaraj Trust. A bench of Justices D D Sinha and V K Tahilramani directed the petitioner to approach the Charity Commissioner rather than taking the matter to court. The PIL had been filed by Pune-based Hemant Patil,president of Rashtriya Bhrashtachar Virodhi Janshakti,an NGO. Patil claimed that Hazares trust had not submitted its audit reports from 2005 to 2007,and urged that the case be investigated by the Income Tax department and the Charity Commissioner. The petitioner had also asked that the court to direct the trust to submit all its financial records.
