Pandit Vidyasagar,who is currently serving as a professor at the physics department of the University of Pune (UoP),has been appointed the vice-chancellor (VC) of Swami Ramanand Teerth (SRT) Marathwada University,Nanded.
Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan,who is the ex-officio chancellor of public universities in the state,made a formal announcement regarding his appointment on Tuesday.
Vidyasagar,who also was the director of Board of College and University Development (BCUD) of UoP,was in the race for UoP vice-chancellor three times in past.
Speaking to Newsline,Vidyasagar expressed content over his appointment. The appointment has come as recognition of my work in the field of academics,teaching and research and development, he said,adding,he would assume charge as the vice-chancellor on Wednesday.
Hailed as the backbone of UoPs triple connectivity project that envisages creation of an audio,video and data link between the university and its affiliated colleges,60-year-old Vidyasagar was associated with the varsity for over two decades.
Vaidyasagar,who obtained his MSc and PhD degrees in Physics from UoP itself,has extensive experience in administration,research and teaching. The Governor had appointed a search committee under the chairmanship of retired Judge of Supreme Court Justice S H Bedi,who shortlisted Vidyasagar for the job.
