Members of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) on Thursday demanded that Pragati Express take its regular route via Kalyan instead of Panvel. Central Railway (CR) had decided to run the popular train via Panvel on trial basis for nine days from July 7.
However, commuters complain that the new route is not working out as the train is getting delayed due to lack of signal clearance. This demand was raised at a meeting of the DRUCC of Pune Division on Thursday. Members of the committee said the train was getting delayed by almost an hour every day since its route was changed.
Several office-goers from the city travel to Mumbai on this train. On its regular route, the train departs from Pune at 7.50 am and reaches CST in Mumbai at 11 am. Since the route change,it has been reaching Mumbai at 11.30 am or noon, said Hemant Tapale,a member of the DRUCC and executive president of Pune-Mumbai Pravasi Sangh.
Local trains operating along the Panvel route are causing a delay in the signal clearance, Tapale said.
DRUCC members also demanded that a separate terminus be built for local trains on Pune station.
Trains like Deccan Queen,Pragati Express and local services are getting delayed. The members have submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Railway Manager, requesting him to ensure that the trains are not delayed, Tapale said.
Meanwhile,Divisional Railway Manager Vishal Agarwal apprised the committee on various developmental and passenger amenity works carried out in the division.
So far,the division has earned Rs 763.4 crore in 2012-13,which is 18 per cent higher compared with last years revenues, Agarwal added.
