Use of technology will enhance classical

The Internet has become a powerful tool due to its wide reach and enormous potential.

The Internet has become a powerful tool due to its wide reach and enormous potential. It,however,is an untapped resource among Indian classical musicians, and exploiting its capacity would do wonders for promoting their talent. With this in mind, tabla maestro Aneesh Pradhan and renowned classical singer Shubha Mudgal have organised a series of seminars and workshops which will be held over the next three years. The first of these seminars, called ‘Sangeet Aapka Sangati Internet Ki’,is being held in the city today at the Sun n’ Sand hotel.

“The seminar aims to empower musicians to communicate with their audiences, promote their talent and appeal to a wider strata of music lovers.” said Parimala Inamdar, who will conduct the seminar. She is assistant professor at the Centre for Research in Cognitive Systems at the NIIT institute,is an expert in educational technology design and research.

Mudgal said,“The objective of this entire programme is to promote cultural pluralism in Indian music. Some of the more traditional musicians are relatively unfamiliar with technology, and are unaware of the unbelievable spectrum of options available on the Internet. The availability of the World Wide Web has given many artistes the option of going independent.”

Pradhan said that such initiatives would help bridge the gap between different genres of music.

The programme consists of six workshops, three seminars and three conferences over a period of three years.
