The Central Railway is expected to make an announcement next week regarding the upgradation of the Pune-Lonavala section. Although Central Railway general manager B B Modgil did not specify the nature of the announcement,he said that the passengers “can definitely expect some improvement in the Pune-Lonavala section”.

Modgil, who was in the city on Thursday to inspect the Pune-Lonavala section, told the media,“We met people today and are aware of the demands. There will be a partial solution next week,” he said.

Officials said that next week, they expected new rakes to be added to Mumbai. This might mean that the trains between Pune and Lonavala will see an increase in the number of coaches.

The DC-AC conversion along this route is also nearly complete, although the division is holding back at the moment because of non-availability of rakes. “Once we exhaust all possible options on this route, then we will go for quadrupling on the Pune-Lonavala route,” Modgil said.

Modgil also said that the work on the Pune-Daund section is expected to be complete in two years. For the city,Daund will then become a suburban station, like Lonavala.

The railway officials said that they were looking at various options to expand the options available for Pune. Shifting of the goods shed in Pune is also on.

Modgil said that the complete security plan for the Pune station would be implemented in a year.

Earlier in the day,the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Indian Railway Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN) were held and S K Vij Member Engineering,Railway Board said that the feasibility studies for the high-speed corridors along Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor and the Delhi-Amritsar are going to begin soon.
