UP youth attempts suicide in city lodge

Prateek Vatsa,a B.Tech student from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh,allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself with a country-made revolver at Randeep lodge near Jehangir hospital around 11.30 am on Wednesday.

Prateek Vatsa,a B.Tech student from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh,allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself with a country-made revolver at Randeep lodge near Jehangir hospital around 11.30 am on Wednesday.

Police suspect the reason for suicide attempt to be a failed love affair. The Bund garden police have booked Vatsa under Arms act and section 309 of Indian Penal Code.

According to police,Vatsa is a B.Tech student at a Chandigarh-based institute. He came to Pune from Patna on Wednesday morning and booked a room at Randeep lodge.

It was the lodge staff who informed police control room about the shooting incident. Constables Prakash Waghmare and Aziz Shaikh of crime branch reached the spot and rushed Vatsa to Jehangir hospital for treatment.

“An operation was conducted on Vatsa for removing the bullet from his body. He was not in a position to give statement,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (crime) Sangramsinh Nishandar.

“Investigations are on. We are yet to confirm the reason behind the suicide attempt. Things will be clear only after we record the statements of Vasta,” said inspector Suhas Nadgauda of Bund Garden police station.

Meanwhile,a police team conducted search at the room in which Vatsa stayed,where they found a photograph of a girl. Police said that the text written behind the photograph indicates that he was in love with a girl. Police said that the girl,also from North India,is currently working at a call center in Pune.

Police have also recovered a pamphlet from his room that mentions a list of colleges across the country including some prominent educational establishments in Pune. Police suspect that Vatsa is an admission agent.

They said that he had earlier studied in Pune and is known to many persons in the city. They are also recording Vatsa’a mobile phone call details. Investigations are also on to know how he got the country-made revolver.
