University of Pune (UoP) will implement credit system in all post-graduate courses in the coming academic year,as decided by the academic council in Wednesdays meet. Some new courses and departments will also be introduced in the coming year, the academic council said.
Diploma in Pharmacy is the new course to be introduced in the coming year and two post graduate courses such as MA (Yoga) and B.Ed (Yoga) will be started by the varsity. A new department of Master of Social Work (MSW) will also be started, an official said.
A lot of changes have been proposed for external students enrolled at various courses. Earlier any student could enrol as an external student. But now on,there has to be a three-year gap between studies for the student to apply in any of the external courses, the official said.
The external section was introduced for students from the economically weaker sections. But other students are taking advantage of this. Now the population of external and internal students is comparable, hence increasing the load on the university. The minimum three-year gap condition will ensure that only needy students come into external section, the official adding that credit system will not be applied for external students.
Till date, the external students were asked to appear for exams in those colleges where infrastructure was well developed.
But from this year onwards, the load will be divided amongst all colleges and principals under UoP will participate in conducting the examination, the official said.
Academic council has also proposed a fee hike and new recruitment of teachers for the new courses.
Various panels are working on formulating a reasonable fee hike in these courses. There are also talks of recruitment for the post of associate and assistant professor at various graduate and post-graduate courses. The panels will submit the report soon, the official added.
