Under-19 T20 cricket tournament from April 29

Poona Club has announced the fourth edition of the premiere series of the 'Poona Club Rolling Trophy U-19 T20 Cricket Tournament' which will see eight teams from the U-19 cricket circuit from different parts of the country,battling it out for the U-19 Championship.

Poona Club has announced the fourth edition of the premiere series of the ‘Poona Club Rolling Trophy U-19 T20 Cricket Tournament’ which will see eight teams from the U-19 cricket circuit from different parts of the country,battling it out for the U-19 Championship.

The championship will start on April 29 at the Poona Club Ground. The matches would be played at Poona Club and Deccan Gymkhana Ground. The tournament will continue for five days,with 15 matches being played. The final will be played on the May 3. The tournament is sponsored by Kumar Properties and the semifinal and final would be telecast live on ICC networks,a local cable channel. ICC Network is the media partner for the tournament.

The chief guest for the inauguration ceremony (to be held at Poona Club ground at 9 am on April 29) will be Ajay Shirke,president,Maharashtra Cricket Association. The guests of honour for the opening function would be Chandu Borde,former India cricketer,former chairman of the Selection Committee and Manager to Indian team to England and Ireland in 2007,Manish Jain,Director,Kumar Properties,Hrishikesh Kanitkar,former India player and Maharashtra Ranji Trophy captain,Rahul Dholepatil former Maharashtra Ranji Trophy player and chairman,Cricket Committee,Poona Club,Shrikant Kalyani,former Maharashtra Ranji Trophy captain.

The T20 matches will be played with adherence to the international rules and standards. The eight teams will be divided into two groups and the matches will be played on league cum knockout basis. Each team will play with all the teams in their respective groups,implying at least three games per side,followed by semifinals and final.

Heavyweight sides such as Poona Club,Varroc Vengsarkar Cricket Academy,Andhra Cricket Association,Mumbai Cricket Association,Baroda Cricket Association,Air India,Deccan Gymkhana,and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association will be the teams to watch in the championship.

The winners and runner-up will be awarded with trophies along with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. The best batsman,best bowler and best fielder will be awarded trophies and cash prize of Rs 2,000 each while Man of the series will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a trophy. There will also be a Man of the match declared for each of the matches played,who will receive a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 500.
