Jharkhand began their campaign in the Coca Cola under-15 sub junior football championship in style as they hammered Uttar Pradesh 3-0 in a one-sided contest at the DSK ground in Loni.

In the first group C game,Jharkhand began the match with Nitish Hazra scoring in the second minute. Hazra turned in a pinpoint Sohail Anjum pass to put Jharkhand in the lead. 16 minutes later,Taj Uddin converted another precise Anjum pass to cushion his side’s lead.

Uttar Pradesh barely managed to foray into their opponent’s half. The Uttar Pradesh team struggled to create chances and were restricted to long-range efforts, most of which went off-target. The second half, was more or less the same. Karan Roy put the seal on the win with a simple tap-in after Taj Uddin’s marauding run had carved the Uttar Pradesh defence to ribbons.

In the other group C fixture,Meghalaya eked out a slender 1-0 win against fancied Kerala. The game was largely a scrappy affair with both teams unable to fashion any clear-cut chances. Reson Malngiang’s free-kick broke the deadlock and the Meghalaya defence did well to hold out as the Kerala unit attacked in droves.
