The truckers in Pune called off their strike on Saturday.

“We have called off the strike in Pune as minister Ajit Pawar has promised to solve our problems at the local level,” said Duttatraya Halande, president of the Pune District Transporters Association.

Pawar had a meeting with the association members on Saturday evening where they put forth their demands — one of the demands was that some roads going towards the Market Yard were closed to heavy vehicles due to which their vehicles have to take a longer route, causing heavy losses. The association demanded that these routes be opened for them. They also demanded that Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations should not increase the transportation charges.

Pawar assured them that he would soon discuss the issues with municipal commissioners, traffic police and the district collector and see that their demands are met. Pawar then requested the transporters to call off the strike in the district.

Ankush Kakade, chairman of MHADA,Pune, and B G Deshmukh, administrator of Pune District Agriculture produce market committee, were also present at the meeting.
