Later in the evening, a team from Alankar police station detained the truck driver. (File)A 23-YEAR-OLD digital marketing executive was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday morning after she was run over by a dumper truck on Karve road while crossing the street on foot. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam said, “The eyewitness accounts in the case suggests that victim was talking on phone when the accident took place.”
Officials from Alankar police station said the deceased Aarti Suresh Manwani, who belonged to Amravati, worked as a digital marketing executive for a private firm in Pune. The incident took place around 11 am when Manwani was walking towards Kothrud bus stand from Damodar Villa Society on Karve Road.
“She climbed up the road median and stepped down on the other side when she was run over by a dumper truck. She is believed to have died on the spot. The truck driver fled the scene without helping the victim or informing the police,” said an officer from Alankar police station.
Inspector Sunita Rokade, in-charge of Alankar Police station said, “Our investigation has revealed that victim was on phone she was hit by the dumper.”
Later in the evening, a team from Alankar police station detained the truck driver. “The driver has been booked on charges of rash driving, causing death due to negligence and provisions related to hit-and-run case,” the officer said.
After the accident, a huge traffic jam was reported on Karve Road. Aarti’s family was informed about the accident, officials said.
