Right hander hits 84,sets up final clash with Cadence.

Rahul Tripathi single-handedly helped Stars Club post a fighting total after his side was reduced to 69 for four in eight overs in the semi-final of the 2013 Polio Cup against Serum Institute at the Shinde High School ground.

Maharashtra Ranji Trophy pacer,Nikit Dhumal, had pegged back the Stars Club team as he sent back Virag Awate and Chirag Khurana in quick succession. Tripathi struck partnerships with Tushar Shrivastava and and Shubham Nagawade, but scored 62 of 84 balls. Tripathi’s fluent knock was studded with four boundaries and four sixes. It was due to Tripathi’s heroics with the bat that Stars Club reached 163 in 20 overs.

Serum Institute never really got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Vishant More,Naushad Sheikh and Jitendra Patil all got starts but could not convert them into big scores. Naseer Momin and Karan Nandey picked up two wickets each but Chirag Khurana’s incisive off-spin really put the Star’s in the driver’s seat. In the second semi-final,Cadence defeated Jain Irrigation by five wickets to set up a summit clash with Stars Club. Batting first,Jain Irrigation could only muster 123 for the loss of all wickets. Azhar Ansari,Jain Irrigation’s skipper scored a fighting 25 but failed to get any support from his teammates. Sunil Patel was the wrecker-in-chief for Cadence as he picked up four wickets in 21 balls conceding just 11 runs.

Cadence lost an early wicket in the form of Abhishek Salvi. However,Prayag Bhati struck a fluent half-century and in the company of Nikhil Paradkar took Cadence to victory.
