The translation industry in Pune has registered a growth of 15-20 per cent per year in the past few years.
Vidula Tokekar, director of Translation Panacea, said that there is a growing demand for translation into European languages such as Spanish,French and other languages.
Multi-national companies (MNCs) require translation of land records, legal documents, memorandum of understanding (MoUs) and other official documents. We have translated land records in Kannada to Spanish. With more companies coming into India, the reach and scope of the translation industry will only grow more, she said. In the past one-and-a-half years, the company had translated 500 pages of official documents.
Tokekar said that another aspect of the industry that has seen phenomenal growth is the translation of bestsellers into Indian languages.
The Harry Potter series and self help books have been translated into Marathi,Tamil and Telgu.
The major cause of worry for the industry is lack of proper manpower, especially with cut-throat competition from East European countries.
