A 75-year-old man from Ambegaon taluka in Pune district died of swine flu (H1N1 virus) at KEM hospital, while a 42 year old man from Daund taluka also succumbed to the infection at Sahyadri hospital Monday. A 60-year-old woman from Thergaon in Chinchwad died of swine flu at YCM hospital Sunday.
The 75-year-old man had fever with chills and dry cough since September 7. Initially, he was admitted to a local hospital on September 8 in Chakan but was shifted to KEM hospital on September 10. He, however, succumbed to the infection on September 14 and died of acute respiratory distress syndrome with H1N1 pneumonia.
The 42-year-old man, who was diabetic, showed symptoms like fever with chills since August 22, and was admitted to a local hospital at Daund. He was shifted to KEM hospital and later to Sahyadri hospital due to non-availability of bed at KEM. He died of H1N1 virus-related acute respiratory distress syndrome and septic shock with multiple organ failure.
A total of 112 swine flu deaths have been registered so far this year, of which 40 are from the Pune Municipal Corporation areas. While 31 people are hospitalised, at least 16 are on ventilator support.
Meanwhile, a total of 409 cases of dengue have been registered with the PMC since January, of which 156 were in August.
