Three held for stealing seven generator sets from Balewadi sports complex

Theft was noticed last year when officials inspected equipment to prepare an audit.

Seven diesel generators worth Rs 3.6 lakh were stolen from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex in Balewadi last year despite a vigilant security cover as a number of national sportspersons practise at the busy sports complex. Hinjewadi Police has arrested three suspects in the case and is on the lookout for the fourth.

According to police,the generators were lying unused in a godown at the complex. The theft was noticed when sports complex officials inspected all the equipment to prepare an audit at the end of the last financial year. Deputy director of the complex Janak Shrirangrao Tekale had lodged a complaint with the Hinjewadi police.

Inspector Mahesh Sagade said that the accused Pradip Navrang Thakur,21,Rohit Gulab Pathan,18,both residents of Mhalunge,and Somnath Navlu Avghade,23,a resident of Patil Estate have confessed to have stolen the generators.

“We have also recovered one of the generators from Thakur’s shop. He is a historysheeter. The suspects said that the remaining generator sets were sold to different people. All the generator belong to Honda and Shriram Honda company,” said Sagade.

A magisterial court remanded the accused in police custody till April 13.

Class VIII student dies in road mishap

A 14-year-old student died after the bicycle he was riding was hit by a speeding tanker in Vadgaon Sheri on Saturday. Yerawada police have arrested the driver of the tanker,Shivraj Holbe,a resident of Vadgaon Sheri. Police said the victim,Tushar Raoji Galande,a resident of Vadgaon Sheri was on his way home when a tanker hit his bicycle from the rear around 9 pm. He was crushed under the right front wheel of the tanker. Investigating officer A B Ahirrao said,“Tushar was a student of class VIII at Daundkar Vidyalay in Vadgaon and is survived by parents and five sisters.”
