Pune city police recovered approximately Rs 1 crores in cash during a search conducted at the house of suspects found selling liquor illegally in Kondhwa, on Thursday evening.
Acting on a tip-off, a Kondhwa police team led by assistant police inspector Afroz Pathan nabbed three suspects in possession of illegal liquor and illicit cash at Kakade Wasti in Kondhwa area of Pune city.
Police have identified the three suspects as Amarkaur alias Madrikaur Dadasingh Juni, Dildarsingh Dadasingh Juni and Devashri Juni.
Police initially seized Rs 1.41 lakh in cash, along with whisky and rum of different brands and some country made liquor, worth Rs 2,05,900, from their possession.
They then conducted a search at their two-storeyed house and large sums of cash in the bedroom cupboards. Subsequently, a police team was deployed at the spot to retrieve and count the cash. Police said a total of Rs 1,00,85,950 was recovered from the spot.
Senior police inspector Kumar Ghadge of the Kondhwa police station said, “As of now we have lodged an offence against the three suspects under sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act for illegal sale of liquor. Further investigation is on.”
“Accused Amarkaur was booked in the past twice for illegal liquor sale. A probe is on to know how and for what purpose they acquired the money seized during the house search,” said Ghadge.
