This one likely to throw up new faces

The newly formed panel is likely to see the sitting corporators as well as new entrants battle it out.

The newly formed panel is likely to see the sitting corporators as well as new entrants battle it out. The panel is reserved for OBC male. The reservation will now force them the male sitting corporators to look at options in other panels.

The panel mainly covers BJP corporator Sunita Chintal’s ward no 138 and Congress corporator Vijayanti Pasalkar’s ward no 139. Both the women corporators are key contestants from their respective parties and are happy that the panel is not reserved for women.

Pasalkar whose entire ward is covered in the panel claims that she has been a known face in the area with several projects undertaken and completed. “From infrastructure to water and road issues,I have been able to address all the issues,” says Pasalkar who is keen to give tough competition to BJP contestants.

She claims that the area is Congress dominant and the voters — both from slums as well from societies will vote for the Congress. For the male seat, the name of Santosh Harale is being discussed.

Corporator Sunita Chintal whose entire area is covered in the panel will be looked at as the key contestant from the party although there is a possibility of their alliance partner Shiv Sena too is keen to put up candidate from the area. Deepali Oswal’s name is doing the rounds from the Sena. NCP is keenly eyeing the chance to contest from this panel as it is reserved for OBC male. The name of NCP’s Sanjay Arwalkar is being discussed while for Shashikala Kumbhar is being looked as the key contendor from the NCP for the open category.

While there are plenty of women contendors from all the parties, the parties are now selecting the male candidates with the panel reservation. “This will be a difficult task and we are yet to select the key contenders,” said a Congress member.

Though the panel falls under the Parvati assembly constituency presently dominated by BJP,political watchers say that the Congress has been dominating as the area fell under Congress MLA Ramesh Bagwe who moved on to Pune Cantonment after delimitation. “It will be keenly watched fight as both the parties have a good hold in the area,”said a BJP member.
