It has been creating history and the trend continues and the films scheduled screening at Durban film festival just adds another feather to its hat. Gabhricha Paus becomes a global phenomenon. After being screened at over a dozen small as well as big film festivals across the globe,the film adds another milestone in its journey. For Gabhricha Paus becomes the first ever Marathi film to be screened at Durban Film Festival.
Produced by Pune-based merchant-navy-officer-turned-film-producer Prashant Pethe,the film focuses on farmers’ suicides in Vidarbha and uses Varadi,the popular dialect of the region as the effective medium to narrate the dilemma of a helpless wife,frustrated husband a dutiful kid.
Pethe is ecstatic about the achievement his debut venture has made. Pethe who was a co producer for Valu for the first time ever independently produced the film Gabhricha Paus. I am overwhelmed. When we got the letter it took us some time to accept the news and finally realise that our film has become the first ever Marathi film to be screened at Durban Film Festival, says Pethe. The film will be screened at the Durban International Film Festival from July 23 to August 2.
Directed by Satish Munwar an alumnus of Lalit Kala Kendra Gabhricha Paus kick started its journey at Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) this year where it gathered rave reviews. And then there was no looking back for the film that became another first timer in a couple of film festivals and grants Rotterdam Warsaw and Durban and grant by the Hubert Bal Fund to name a few.
