This Sunday evening will see them coming together – a mesmerising dance performance and the call for a noble cause. This is what brings Mamata Shanker, the celebrated performer in dance and acting,to Pune after a gap of 12 years. The renowned danseuse and her troupe will perform in the city on July 26 to raise funds for Vanitashray,a trust for abandoned and orphaned girl child and destitute women. The NGO is in immediate need of funds to the tune of atleast Rs 20 lakh to build a permanent accommodation for the destitute women.

“We approached Mamata ji for help and she readily agreed. After 12 years, she will be performing in the city for Vanitashray,” says Nilanjan Banerji, programme co-ordinator and one of the members of Vanitashray. Through this event, the city will witness the amalgamation of a sterling dance performance and concerted efforts for a noble cause.

Choreographed and directed by Mamata Shankar, the ballet Amritasya Putra has travelled across the globe, garnering accolades for its enchanting effect. “The ballet illustrates the divine with five elements —fire, space, wind, earth and water and reinstates the belief that the soul moves in various forms before entering the human body,” elaborates Chandrodoy Ghosh,Shankar’s husband and the lead voice for the ballet.

( Amritasya Putra will be performing at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch between 7 and 10 pm on July 26)
