A special judge,hearing the Telgi case,on Saturday declared the city-based lawyer Vijay Gunjal,who is a prosecution witness in the case,hostile.
Gunjal had deposed at the Pune District Court before Special Judge V V Bhambarde on Saturday.
According to the prosecution, Gunjal had accompanied alleged master forger Abdul Karim Telgis lawyer Abdul Rashid Kulkarni,when he met and allegedly bribed suspended ACP Mohammed Mulani.
As per Vijay Gunjals statement recorded on September 11,2003,Gunjal had accompanied advocate A R Kulkarni in August 2002,when he went to meet Mulani. Also that A R Kulkarni subsequently told him that he had given Rs15 lakh to Mulani. Vijay had told him that in spite of giving Rs 15 lakh to Mulani,the names of the four accused were not deleted, Special Public Prosecutor Raja Thakre said.
During cross-examination of Gunjal,Thakare realised that Gunjal was not going by the prosecutions case and informed Judge Bhambarde that Gunjal is not going on the two statements given by Crime Branch and SIT,and hence requested the judge to declare him hostile. During the cross-examination,he revealed that he met Mulani and had read the said news in the newspaper. The court has been adjourned till April 4.
