Hinjewadi police have booked a 29-year-old software engineer for rape of his 25-year-old colleague, for having a relationship with her on the false promise of marriage.
Police said Rohit Sureshchandra Yadav, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, worked with the victim at a multi-national IT firm at Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi.
Police said the two had been in a relationship since March 2010,after which Yadav had allegedly promised to marry her and maintained physical relations with her. Rohit reportedly married another girl three months ago. The victim lodged a complaint with the womens grievance redressal cell at the police commissioners office in the first week of July. After recording her statement, the case was forwarded to Hinjewadi police station. Police have registered a case of rape against Yadav, said investigating officer PSI B Bhasme.
Yadavs lawyer Milind Pawar stated that the two knew each other since 2009 and have had a physical relationship with mutual consent. She remained in the relationship even though he had told her that he will not be able to marry her. In April this year,Yadav got married, and when he told the girl about it,she demanded Rs 10 lakh from him and threatened to lodge a complaint of rape against him if he did not comply, he argued.
The court has granted bail to Yadav, with the condition that he cooperates with the police and directed the latter not to arrest him till July 17.
