Tanker hits two school girls,kills 1

A Speeding tanker knocked down two girls while they were walking home from school,from Holewasti to Undri,on Monday afternoon. One of the girls,identified as Alisha Shahid Khan (15),resident of Handewadi,died in the mishap. Vaishnavi Sanjay Kadam (13),resident of Pisoli,got severe injuries and underwent an operation at the Ruby Hall Clinic.

An offence in this case was registered at the Kondhwa police station. Police have arrested the tanker driver identified as Somnath Rambhau Bhintade on charges of negligent driving.

According to the police,while Alisha was a class IX student at Hill Green English Medium High School in Undri,Vaishnavi is in class VIII. After attending school on Monday,the two girls along with Alisha’s brother Shahbaz Khan were walking home when a tanker coming from Undri to Mohammedwadi knocked them down around 1.45 pm.

While Shahbaz escaped unhurt,Alisha was caught under the tanker tyres. The tanker also went over Vaishnavi’s legs. A passerby Akhtar Peerzade rushed the injured girls to hospital in his four-wheeler. Alisha,however,succumbed to her injuries on Monday night. Vaishnavi’s father Sanjay Kadam said she was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic for treatment and underwent an operation. “The tanker first hit a two-wheeler and then knocked down the girls. We hope the police will take stern action against the driver,” he said.

Police had to rush to the accident spot after crowd turned angry. The tanker has been seized,said Sub-Inspector Jagdish Raut,who is investigating the case.
