If losing weight has been a perennial problem with you, then take heart from the fact that the scorching summer is the best time of the year to get a complimentary reading on your weighing scales. The most heartening aspect of the exercise to become lighter by a few kilos is the fact that summer-friendly foods not just help in losing weight but also give the skin a healthy glow and contribute to improving general health.

As nutritional consultant Manisha Angal says,“Consuming lots of fruit and vegetable juices ensures that the body is rid of toxins,as that is the primary purpose of these foods. Also, one must ensure that the water content in the body is always high and that you keep off oily, spicy food.” Angal suggests consuming a whole lot of salads and citrus fruits. “All citrus fruits, watermelon and papaya are very good options if you are planning to lose weight. The added benefit is that they do your health a lot of good too,” she adds.

Keeping it light – that should be the mantra when eating out or at home, during the scorching summer months. With temperatures being especially high this year,it’s a good idea to stick to light meals and consume smaller portions, says Aarati Pillai,a clinical nutritionist. “The idea is to keep consuming small portions throughout the day. Instead of having three large meals, break it up into six smaller ones. It’s very important to keep having water,as it prevents dehydration and helps flush out toxins from the body,” she adds.

Also to be kept in mind is the fact that consuming fibre is a really good way to lose weight. “Wheat bran and six cereal bread are really helpful in aiding weight loss,as is,of course, consuming lots of fruits and vegetables. Also, along with all this, exercise is but naturally,a must. There can be no positive results without exercise being a part of the regime,” says Pillai. Angal echoes the same as she states that during summers,it’s best to stick to simple meals like Dal-Roti and Dal-Chawal. “It’s better to have non-oily,less spicy food and consume lesser quantities at frequent intervals. That helps digest the food properly and aids the metabolism to perform well,” she adds.
