Student commits suicide in Lonavla

A 20-year-old student of Tolani Maritime Institute in Lonavla allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Friday.

A 20-year-old student of Tolani Maritime Institute in Lonavla allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Friday. Police said the student has left a suicide note in Tamil. He had joined college three days ago,they said.

The deceased has been identified as Raja Pandian Velladurai,a resident of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu. The incident came to light around 7 pm on Friday when some of his friends found his room locked from inside. When he did not answer their calls,they broke open the door and found Raja hanging. He had also cut nerves of his hand.

Assistant sub-inspector of Talegaon Dabhade police,Chandrashekhar Dalvi said,“The incident came to light around 7 pm. Around 4 pm he had called his elder brother and asked about his parents. He has left a suicide note in Tamil. We have already informed his family.”

Inspector Sanjay Nikam,incharge of Talegaon Dabhade police station,said,“We are yet to get the suicide note translated. His family members told us that he felt lonely at the institute and had problem in communicating due to language barriers. The postmortem is yet to be conducted.” The institute officials refused to comment.
