St Vincent’s,Loyola High School on a roll

Both teams will feature in two finals on concluding day of Loyola Invitational Football Cup

St Vincent’s High School scraped past JN Petit in a thrilling penalty shootout to book their spot in the finals of the Under-14 category at the Loyola Invitational Football Cup. The tournament is an invitational inter-school event being organised by Loyola High School and Ex Loyola Alumni (ELAN).

In one of the most pulsating matches of the day,both teams started off brightly, creating a host of chances in the first 10 minutes. However,strikers from both units seemed to be taking some time to adjust to the pace of the game. In the 19th minute,a flowing move from St Vincent’s High School ended with Shreyas Jadhav hammering the ball into the net to give his side the lead. JN Petit Technical High School,roared back almost immediately with Abhijit Khatri’s powerful drive settling into the back of the net to restore parity for his side.

With the teams locked at 1-1,both sides went full throttle in search of a goal. However,both defences stood resolute weathering the frequent raids into their halves. With regulation time not yielding a result,the game moved into a penalty shootout. Vedant Jadhav,Anush Katariya,Shreyas Jadhav and Kevin Rupert converted their spot kicks to hand St Vincent’s High School a berth in the final. JN Petit Technical School could only manage to score three out of their five penalties. In the other semifinal in the Under-14 category,Loyola High School trounced Vidya Bhawan High School 4-2. Youraj Sawant gave his side the lead on two occasions,netting in the fifth and the 12th minute. However,Neal Job and Alex Anthony recorded a brace each to put all of Sawant’s hard work in vain,and set up a summit clash with St Vincent’s High School on Tuesday.

In the Under-12 category,SSPMS (Boarding) defeated JN Petit Technical High School 2-0. Suryatej Patil’s second minute goal and Tejas Thomre’s 23rd minute strike sealed the tie for SSPMS (Boarding). In the other semifinal,Loyola High School edged past St Vincent’s High School 2-1. Rounak Nagul gave St Vincent’s the lead when he slotted home in the 22nd minute. Loyola High School equalised two minutes later with Suryam Ghatge and Sahil Pillay’s 28th minute strike was enough to put Loyola High School into the final.

JN Petit Technical High School handed out a football lesson to SSPMS (Boarding) in the first semifinal of the Under-16 category. JN Petit School fired 4 unanswered goals past SSPMS (Boarding) with Mitha Faiz,Prabhuddha Gaikwad,Sui Marzin and Mohammed Sayyed all scoring a goal apiece. In the second semifinal in the same category,St Vincent’s High School downed Loyola High School 2-0 with goals from Pranav Bhandari and Saad Shaikh.
