As soon as SSC results were declared, counsellors appointed by the Board to guide parents and students were bombarded by phone calls. So much so that counsellors are now suggesting that more such helplines be set up in all the nine divisions of the board so that they get enough time to attend each call.

Currently, these helplines that operate only in Pune divison get calls from across the state. “The results were declared at 1 pm and I have been getting calls almost every minute after that. I got calls from parents and students of the city,Pune division and from far off districts such as Chandrapur and Ratnagiri. We can’t give enough time to each call as we are just three counsellors here. More such helplines should be opened in each division,” said T M Bangar of New Arts,Science and Commerce College.

Another city-based counsellor Ramesh Patil said most of the calls were from parents who wanted help in choosing colleges and streams for their wards.

“Those who didn’t get marks according to their expectations were guided to go for either grade improvement examination or marks verification system. Those who unexpectedly failed were interested in knowing about the procedure of procuring answer sheet copies,” said Patil, who got around 250 calls between 1 pm and 6 pm.

According to counsellors, there were several calls from students who had failed. “Many felt very depressed and I calmed them down by informing them that even if they have failed in one or two subjects, they can get admission to Class XI and improve their performance later. I also spoke to their parents,” said Bangar.
