Pune City Police prevailed over Aurangabad district in a tight match at the Aga Khan Hockey at PCMC stadium,winning the tiebreaker 5-3 after normal time ended with the team locked at 3-all.

Aurangabad’s Wasim Shaikh was the only player to miss in the shootout — all other police players converted,rendering Aurangabad’s fifth penalty unnecessary.

A brace from Vinod Nimbore left Pune police 2-1 up after 15 minutes,with Aurangabad’s Pasha Shaikh scoring once between his two strikes. Imran Shaikh equalised for Aurangabad at the stroke of half time.

Ganesh Giri Gosavi put Police up once more in the 41 st minute,converting a pass from namesake Ganesh Muthiah,but Pasha Shaikh scored his second six minutes later to bring things level once more.

In another match,Sashikant Biranje,Santosh Musale and Dhiraj More scored two goals each as Super XI thumped Rovers Academy 10-4. For Rovers,Sarfaraz Shaikh scored a brace.

Hosts Turf Club ‘A’ reached the knockout rounds at the RWITC-Chaganbai Dayalal Oswal Inter-Club snooker team championship,after scoring a 3-0 win over Cue Ball Café ‘A’ in their Group ‘F’ match. Zubin Registrar scored a 61-35,67-24 win over Tejas Pawar in the first singles game to set Turf Club on their way,before Muneez Poonawala and Robert D’mello ousted Nikhil Munde and Tejas Pawar 54-41,50-36 in the doubles. D’mello then defeated Nikhil Munde 25-47,55-49,72-43 to take his team to the knockouts.

A sparkling display from Shriya Kane,who scored 21 points,helped PYC beat Deccan Gymkhana 39-35 in a girls match at the Late Sanjay Nimhan Memorial under-16 basketball tournament on Tuesday. PYC just about held their nerve in a five-minute extra time after the match ended 30-30 in normal time. In the boys’ section,Soman’s ‘B’ comfortably defeated St. Mary’s ‘B’ 45-18 thanks to the duo of Shantanu Shimpi and Sahil Shinde,who scored 10 points each.
