After Frankfurt and Dubai,Sharjah would be the next destination where Puneities can fly directly.
Announcing the new direct flight from Pune to Sharjah on Friday,Kamal Hingorani,senior vice-president,Spicejet,said the company would also start Pune-Bangkok flight from next week.
Addressing the media,Hingorani said though no specific sectoral study was done,there was a growing demand for a direct Pune-Sharjah flight. Sharjah is the twin city of Dubai and a gateway to the Middle East, he said.
He said the flight would cater to visiting friends and relatives (VFR) category.
The company that is on the offensive to increase its presence and footprint in various sectors in the country,has been operating flights to Sharjah from Varanasi and Lucknow already.
Speaking about the growth of international air travel,Hingorani said the sector has seen a growth of 15 per cent in the current fiscal year. Last year,the growth was at 6 per cent, he said.
At present,the Pune-Sharjah flight would operate for four days in a week.
Hingorani,however,expressed hope to operate flights on the route every day. The flight (SG051) will depart from Pune airport at 10.30 pm and arrive at Sharjah International Airport at 12.25 am (local time).
The return flight will depart from Sharjah at 1.25 am and arrive in Pune at 6.00 am.
