Speeding dumper mows down 2 techies

Two software professionals were killed on the spot when a speeding dumper hit the bike they were riding in Yerawada on Thursday.

Two software professionals were killed on the spot when a speeding dumper hit the bike they were riding in Yerawada on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Dev Pratap Singh (26),who hailed from Jharkhand,and Sonali Sharma (25) from Odisha.

Yerawada police said the incident took place on Loop Road opposite Don Bosco High School. Senior inspector Deepak Sawant of Yerawada police station said,“The dumper was coming from Mundhwa and going towards Alandi. Eyewitnesses told us that Singh tried to overtake the dumper from the left when the bike was hit. Due to the jerk both Singh and Sharma fell and came under the rear wheels of the dumper.”

Sawant said,“We have arrested the dumper driver Vijay Pandhare (38),a resident of Moshi for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.”

He added,“Singh worked as a computer engineer at Seed Infotech in Erandwane while Sonali was employed with a software company in Commerce Zone in Yerawada. Singh was staying in Bhekarai Nagar while Sonali lived with her brother near Hadapsar.”

A police officer said,“A large number of vehicles are parked on both the sides of Loop Road,

leaving no space for any vehicle to overtake. This results in a number of accidents on this road.”
