Soon after police leave the area, gangster shot dead

Police suspect the incident to be a fallout of a dispute between members of two gangs over supremacy in the boating business.

In yet another brutal murder as a result of rivalry between local,Pappu Taware (32),a criminal on police records and a member of notorious Nilesh Ghaywal gang, was shot dead at his native Jambhali village near Panshet late on Sunday night. The police suspect the incident to be a fallout of a dispute between members of two gangs over supremacy in the boating business in dam backwaters.

Surprisingly Taware was attacked by unidentified assailants sometime after a police team which had gone looking for him left the village on Sunday night returned. Taware’s wife has alleged in the first information report that the assailants killed Taware in the presence of the police.

Additional SP Ravindrasinh Pardeshi said,“These are completely baseless allegations. The murder is a fallout of a rivalry between Nilesh Ghaywal gang and Gajanan Marne gang.” He said Taware had 10 serious offences against him and he was recently booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.

Manojkumar Lohiya,SP (Pune Rural) said,“Our police team had gone to search for Taware. We had the information that he had come to the village for a religious ceremony. But he could not be found. Our team returned from the village and on the way they got a call about about firing in the village.” The police suspect the murder to have taken place around 11.30 pm.

The police team found that Taware was brutally murdered. A total of eight rounds were fired out,of which six had hit him. He was also attacked with sharp weapons on his hands. Lohiya said,“Primary probe shows that Taware had rivalry with other group over control on the contracts of boating business in the dam backwaters.”

Another senior police officer said,“These two groups are attached to Ghaywal and Marne gang and they have been fighting over boating business and also about property dealings. There have been attacks on each others’ members in the past.” The police are yet to arrest anyone in the case.
