Sinhagad Fort to remain closed till June 4 amid anti-encroachment drive
The Government of Maharashtra had in January passed a resolution that illegal structures and encroachments on the demarcated areas of historic forts in the state be removed.

(Express Photo) The Pune Forest Department, which has undertaken a major anti-encroachment drive at Sinhagad Fort from May 29, has said that the fort will be closed to visitors for two more days till June 4. The Forest Department had earlier notified closure of the fort till Monday.
The Government of Maharashtra had in January passed a resolution that illegal structures and encroachments on the demarcated areas of historic forts in the state be removed. Consequent to that a major drive was undertaken at Sinhagad Fort in Pune on May 29.
“An anti-encroachment operation has been underway at Sinhagad Fort since May 29. Due to the inaccessibility of vehicles on the fort, all reinforced cement concrete structures are being dismantled manually. Despite challenging conditions such as strong winds at the hilltop, the Forest Department, Archaeology Department, Revenue Department, Police, Public Works Department, and Zilla Parishad teams have made relentless efforts to remove almost all unauthorized structures.” said Deputy Conservator of Forest for Pune Division, Tushar Chavan.
