Police said the CCTV footage showed four people nabbed the shepherd, dragged him on the road and forcibly got him into the car. The Pimpri Chinchwad police rescued a 40-year-old shepherd who was kidnapped from Chinchwadgaon by a group of men over a financial dispute.
Police identified the victim as Tukaram Sadhu Shimple, a native of Ambajogai in Beed district of Maharashtra. He has been residing in a tin shed house in Chinchwad Gaon for the last two years.
According to police, a car intercepted Shimple near Dhaneshwar temple in Chinchwad Gaon around 7am on February 28. The men inside the car kidnapped Shimple and fled the spot.
After receiving information about the incident, a team of the crime branch led by inspector Jitendra Kadam launched a search operation. Police got clues about the car used for kidnapping from a video captured by a CCTV camera near the crime scene.
Police said the CCTV footage showed four people nabbed Shimple, dragged him on the road and forcibly got him into the car. Probe revealed the car went towards Beed district.
Police said during investigation, they found that before shifting to Chinchwad, Shimple was into the business of selling goats and sheep at Ambajogai in Beed. He worked as an agent or mediator between the seller and buyer of cattle. However, he incurred some financial losses and was in debt as some of the buyers did not give the money assured to him.
Police said Shimple sold his farm and jewellery and then shifted to Chinchwad along with his wife, where the couple started working at a cow shed of Dhaneshwar temple.
Police said Raghunath Narute, a shepherd from Beed, was demanding about Rs 14.5 lakhs from Shimple repeatedly. Shimple was involved in a deal between Narute and the buyers.
Police said Narute allegedly gave ‘supari (contract money)’ to his nephew Dnyaneshwar alias Balasaheb Rupnar (22) for kidnapping Shimple and recovering the money. Police said Rupnar and his three aides abducted Shimple and then confined him in a tin shed room in a village in Beed.
Police nabbed Rupnar and rescued Shimple on Sunday. Rupnar was handed over to the Chinchwad police station for further investigation. Police have booked Rupnar under Sections 34 (common intention) and (kidnapping) of the IPC while a search has been launched for the other accused in the case.
