A senior photographer and his driver were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a state transport bus in the early hours of Friday. Police said the mishap took place on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route.
Police have identified the victims as Gurubachhan Singh Rajpal (58),the owner of Raj Videos,and driver Prashant Vasantrao Mashalkar (21). An offence was registered at the Wanavdi police station. Rajpals son Surendra Singh was also injured in the mishap and is being treated at a private hospital.
Police said Rajpals were coming to Pune after visiting Narayanpur. Around 3 am,their car allegedly collided with a state transport bus (Borivli-Pune-Umarga route) near Ramtekdi bus stop on Pune-Solapur highway. The impact was so severe that Rajpal and Mashalkar died on the spot.
Rajpal was known for his social activities. He was the founder of Gurukul Education Foundation in Rasta Peth. He had been awarded Ahimsa Puraskar by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. He was a close relative of former mayor Mohan Singh Rajpal,who blamed the bad condition of roads for the mishap.
