A chain-snatcher was chased and nabbed by Muralidhar Deshpande,60,early on Thursday near Shaniwar Wada. The suspect had allegedly snatched two gold chains worth Rs 1.60 lakh from Deshpandes wife.
The suspect, identified as Pravin Kamalakar Patole,28,of Tadiwala road was arrested after Deshpandes wife Meghana (53) registered a complaint with the Faraskhana police. An auto-rickshaw driver Umesh Suryavanshi helped Deshpande in nabbing the suspect after a chase.
Police commissioner Meeran Borwankar felicitated Deshpande and Suryavanshi on Thursday. Deshpande said,We were on our regular morning walk. When we reached Nava pool around 6 am we noticed a youth stopped few metres from us. As the footpath is narrow,my wife was walking behind me.
Police said, when Dehspande saw the youth running away with the gold chain he started the chase. Deshpande said,While chasing him I was also asking for help. First,a PMPML bus driver stopped the bus and blocked the road and then an auto-rickshaw driver too blocked his way. I finally caught him near Shaniwar Wada and took him to police station.
Anant Rajeshirke, senior police inspector at Faraskhana police station said,Patole worked at a snack bar in the past. He told us that he is in debt and so tried to snatch the chain.
