A school in Baramati on Monday decided to install CCTV cameras in all its classrooms after a student was allegedly made to undress and paraded in the classroom by a teacher, all because the girl missed school for a day. Authorities at Kavi Moropant Shikshan Sanstha at Aamrai in Baramati have also suspended the teacher,Urmila Kisan Wayse.

The girl,a student of Std III,was reportedly absent on July 11. When she came to school the next day,an angry Wayse allegedly asked the girl to undress and then paraded her in the classroom. Sources said the girl,in shock on being punished in this manner, fell ill and refused to go back to school. She later confided in her parents about the punishment, they added.

Enraged, her parents then confronted Wayse at the school. However,Wayse behaved arrogantly with them, sources said. The parents then lodged a complaint with the school authorities.

Vasantrao Mavlankar, secretary of Kavi Moropant Shikshan Sanstha said,“We have suspended the teacher and an inquiry has been ordered to confirm the facts. She has been teaching in the school for last five to six years. There was no complaint against her earlier.”

“We have also decided to install CCTV cameras in the classrooms. We have 46 classrooms for students from Stds I to VII,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources said Wayse also punished others students similarly for reasons like not completing homework or absenteeism.

Additional superintendent of police (Baramati) Ravindrasinh Pardeshi said,“We have not received a formal police complaint in this case. We are not investigating the matter.”
