Vikram Vinay Bhave, a Sanatan Santha seeker who was acquitted in the murder case of anti-superstition activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar, has come out with a book alleging he was framed in the case “for being a Hindutvawadi.”

The book, titled “Dabholkar Hatya Ani Me (Dabholkar Murder and Me)” was released in Pune on Sunday in the presence of BJP Maharashtra Vice President Madhav Bhandari, Sanatan Sanstha’s spokesperson Abhay Vartak and advocate Sanjiv Punalekar, who too was acquitted in the Dabholkar murder case.

“…I was framed in the Dabholkar murder case just because I am a Hindutvawadi…. Through this book, I am sharing my experiences, which are not good, but which I want the Hindus and Hindutva movement to be aware of the system against us…,” said Bhave.

In his speech after the book release, Bhandari said, “I am not here as a BJP’s Vice President, but as a Hindutva activist. I do not agree with all activities of Sanatan Sanstha. Despite the differences, I am here because I believe in Hindu philosophy and I am against framing anybody in false cases for politics.”

Bhandari further alleged that the political conspiracy to defame the Hindutva movement started after the Godhra riots of 2002.

Referring to the recent extradition of terror operative Tahawwur Rana, Bhandari blamed the Congress party for failing to prevent the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, despite having intelligence inputs and for not uncovering the “local support” that allegedly helped the Pakistani terrorists.

Bhandari did not comment on Bhave’s book saying he has not read it as he is undergoing treatment for his eyes.

Narendra Dabholkar (67), founder of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANIS), was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants on the VR Shinde bridge in Pune city on the morning of August 20, 2013.

Initially, the case was probed by Pune city police, but later the CBI took over the investigation and arrested eight people. Bhave was arrested by the CBI in the case in May 2019.

In September 2021, CBI framed charges against five accused. Bhave was among the four accused charged for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, under IPC and UAPA sections.

On May 10 2024, a special court in Pune convicted two Hindutva activists Sharad Kalaskar and Sachin Andure for murdering Dabholkar, while acquitting Bhave, Punalekar as well as the alleged “mastermind” Dr Virendrasinh Tawade. The court had stated that there was suspicion on Tawade, Bhave and Punalekar, but were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Speaking at the book launch event on Saturday, Punalekar said the CBI’s investigation is fabricated.

Bhave was convicted in the 2008 Gadkari Rangayatan auditorium blast case in Thane. While being released on bail in the blast case in 2013, he had scripted his first book “Malegaon Sphotamagil Adrushya Hath (Invisible hands behind Malegaon blast). In this book he had claimed that Muslims held for 2006 Malegaon blast and Hindus arrested for 2008 Malegaon blast are innocent.
