An armed robbery was foiled at a jewellery shop in Hadapsar on Friday after the owner and alert citizens nabbed one of the two suspects. Before the owner nabbed the robber,one of the robbers fired a bullet from a pistol which hit the roof. No one was injured in the incident. Cops seized the pistol and four live cartridges.
Hadapsar police said the incident took place at Omkar Jewellers,owned by Santosh Shivaji Parge (32),a resident of Hadapsar. While the arrested suspect has been identified as Santosh Jagwal Yadav (30) of Ghorpadi,his accomplice Joseph Charles (25),also a resident of Ghorpadi,managed to flee on a bike,police said.
Senior inspector Pandharinath Mandhare said,At around 1.40 pm Parge was about to close the shop when Yadav came there and said he wanted to buy gold chains. Parge told him to come after 5 pm as the shop would remain closed until then. He suddenly took out a pistol and pointed it at Parges head. He then started taking out all the ornaments.
Mandhare said Parge caught hold of the pistol and Yadav fired a bullet,which hit the ceiling. As they got into a scuffle,Parge shouted for help. Some people working in front of the shop pressed the alert button in the shop. Witnesses told us that Yadavs accomplice fled from the spot.
Police said two painters Sonaji Ghule and Vijay Kundlik Burude and a passerby Nagesh Laxmanrao Kasar helped Parge nab Yadav and a snatch the pistol from Yadav. Police,which reached the spot few minutes later,arrested Yadav.
