Shiv Sena MLA Chandrakant Mokate and 10 others have been sentenced to one month imprisonment for staging a roadblock demanding the widening of a drainage channel in Kothrud in October,2010. A fine of Rs 1,500 each has also been imposed.

By September 29,2010,Pune had received heavy rainfall,which resulted in the overflowing of drainage channels. In Kothrud. water had seeped into Shivnagari Housing Society. As a result,a compound wall collapsed,killing four persons. On October 4,2010,water entered several houses in Kothrud. Mokate and several other Shiv Sena workers,corporators staged a road-blockade blaming the narrow drainage canals for the accidents and demanded that they be widened. The protest,which lasted an hour,took place despite the police denying them permission for the same.
