Revenge killing case: 2 suspects get life term

Additional Sessions Judge V K Shewale sentenced Shabeer Shamsuddin Shaikh (36) and Javed Rizwan Shaikh (27) both from Kondhwa to life imprisonment for beheading a historysheeter in a revenge killing case of 2007. Two others,Abdul Ghani Khan (30) of Ghorpade Peth and Khalil Shamsuddin Shaikh (26) of Ganj Peth were acquitted for lack of evidence. The convicts were caught while moving the head.

According to the prosecution,on December 18,2007,deceased Sohail Suleman Shaikh (30) of Salisbury Park and his friends were returning from a marriage reception. The charge sheet says Sohail,was dragged out of the car and was assaulted. Shabeer then beheaded him with a chopper. While,Sohail’s friends fled from the spot,a passerby had informed the police control about a headless body.

A police patrol team soon reached the spot and saw Javed carrying the head and Shabeer armed with chopper. Their clothes were stained with blood. They were arrested and a complaint has been lodged with the Wanowrie police station.

The charge sheet further said: “Shabeer wanted to avenge the murder of his friend Fayyaz in 2004 at Fashion Street,Camp. Sohail,an accused in Fayyaz’s murder,and his accomplices were acquitted few days ago due absence of sufficient evidence.”
