The film industry had been on the edge following the much-public spat between Shah Rukh Khan and Shirish Kunder. Genelia D’Souza and Riteish Deshmukh’s sangeet ceremony gave them an excuse to lighten up. It was an occasion for industry members to let their hair down and dance till the wee hours of Wednesday.
Dressed in a white lehenga with intricate stone-work,D’Souza smiled for the shutterbugs,patiently posing for pictures with her fiance. Riteish,on his part,looked dapper in a blue sherwani. The two,who started dating eight years ago on the sets of Tujhe Meri Kasam,in which they were paired together,are finally set to tie the knot.
The ceremony,directed by filmmaker Karan Johar,was held at the Taj Land’s End in Bandra,Mumbai,and attended by most industry members. Johar was one of the first to arrive,accompanied by Abhishek Bachchan and Gauri Khan. They were greeted by Riteish’s father,Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh,playing the gracious host. Shah Rukh gave the sangeet a miss but provided a voice-over for the evening.
Arbaaz Khan came in with wife Malaika and sister-in-law Amrita Arora-Ladhak. Rishi Kapoor,basking in the success of Agneepath,was in the mood to party as was wife Neetu Kapoor. Manyata and Sanjay Dutt,Mehr and Arjun Rampal,Tanya and Bobby Deol,Anu and Sunny Dewan,Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor were the other guests. Shahid Kapoor came in alone,as did Asin. Sajid Khan attended sans Jacqueline Fernandez. However,he spent most of his time talking to the media about the Shah Rukh-Shirish patch up.
