The Regional Transport Authority (RTA),in a meeting convened earlier this week, has decided to lower autorickshaw fares in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad area.
In a release, the RTA said the fares would now be revised. The minimum auto fare has been revised to Rs 9 for the starting kilometre instead of Rs 10 while the subsequent kilometres would be Rs 7 instead of Rs 8.
The meeting, which was held on April 26,also led to the decision to have the autorickshaw owners converting into CNG/LPG to reduce pollution in the city. The release said that as per the norms of the Bhurelal committee, the autos have to adhere to the norms. Strict guidelines were also issued to have the owners convert their autos into CNG/LPG.
The auto federations were told to come out with new rate structures and various issues, such as the actual cost of fuel, taxes and proposals were considered at the meeting.

Autorickshaw federations were earlier mulling over revising the fare structure after the cut in fuel prices and were interested in passing on the benefits to customers. With the fuel prices being cut for the second time, the unions were in favour of revising the fares as they did not expect it to fall further.
The RTA has also said that those commuters facing any kind of harassment from rickshaw drivers should use the helpline: 020-261233520 (24 hours)
The RTA has said that due action can be taken against the driver if they demand excess fare, refuse to ply short distances or display arrogant behaviour. During office hours one could contact 6051414/27492828 between 10 am to 5.45 pm
